IN THE SEA OF XÀBIA

“When I first began to feel and navigate this sea of Denia and Xàbia, I never stopped imagining that these waters belonged to Sorolla, intoxicated by this muscatel light, just as it happened to me”.

Manuel Vicent

The final section focuses on Xàbia, a town Sorolla visited for the first time in October 1896, when he wrote to his wife Clotilde saying: “Sublime, immense Jávea, the best place I know for painting. It surpasses everything.”

Here, Vicent’s narrative revolves around pleasure, beauty, and the sea as a form of spirituality. He reminds us how simple pleasures can become universal values. We no longer see scenes filled with life and people; instead, we find only silence, light, and the overwhelming beauty of nature as captured by Sorolla.

Portichol Island, Jávea, Cape San Antonio, Jávea, and Waterwheel, Jávea are some of the masterpieces included in this thematic section.
