"There is a moment, when standing before certain photographs, in which time seems to stand still. The gaze of the viewer meets that of the person who has been seen, and something essential passes between them — something that needs neither words nor explanation. This is the threshold that ICONS invites you to cross.”
We are proud to present at Palau Martorell the most extensive retrospective ever devoted to Steve McCurry: over 150 works spanning more than forty years, across three floors entirely inhabited by the power of a boundless vision. More than an exhibition, ICONS is an emotional journey through the themes that have shaped McCurry’s work — identity, childhood, spirituality, dignity, and the fragile bond between humanity and nature.
Freed from rigid chronologies or fixed paths, the exhibition invites visitors to move according to their own sensibility, guided only by emotion. Faces, places, and stories enter into silent dialogue across cultures and time, revealing a universal language grounded in empathy and human connection.
From iconic portraits to scenes of everyday resilience, McCurry transforms fleeting encounters into enduring images that speak of fragility, hope, and the shared experience of being human. In an age of distraction and division, these photographs invite us to pause, to truly see, and to recognise ourselves in others.
