PAOLO DI CAPUA
NATURALESA HUMANA
The artist creates and achieves forms by pushing balance to the breaking point and compromising the static and intrinsic foundations of the material itself.
The form remains intact, primitive in the noblest sense of the word, and iconic, as an element that represents art and humanity in an elevated way, rather than an ephemeral god. But this form rarely includes any clear evidence of reality (Come fosse casa vostra, ‘As if it were your home’, 2022), but is overdetermined by something ‘more’, as a consequence of the linguistic tension that projects it into the ‘beyond’ it attempts to represent. Paolo Di Capua wants us to perceive something that has never been seen in the world, something that we do not usually perceive as real, but which establishes a close, blood relationship with human issues and human beings.
Everything has to do with human beings, humanity, human nature. Paolo Di Capua's “beyond,” although it must necessarily be corporeal, eludes the domain of the body. Volume and matter are arranged in a state different from what we are accustomed to seeing, and this is determined by the nature of the effect of air and light, of everything that surrounds forms, bodies, and their appearances.
